Founder Aparna is a graduate of New York University. She aspires to be a pediatric physician and writer. Aparna founded Caduceus in the fall of 2018. She envisioned this publication as a way for herself and others to keep up with current events in medicine, develop opinions on complex socio-political subtleties within medicine, and make time amidst busy premedical schedules to regularly write. Aparna is deeply interested in the collaborative efforts between the humanities and medical fields to further enrich patient care. She studies narrative in her literature classes and sees science and medicine as a way to change patient narratives. In her free time, Aparna likes to walk to Strand to pick up a book (or two), try out new foods around NYC, and FaceTime her dog.
Avery is a senior at New York University majoring in English Literature and minoring in Psychology. Her medical interests involve emergency medicine, mental health advocacy, women’s health rights, and veteran healthcare. Her literary interests involve 18th century critical theory, Victorian novels, and poetry. She believes the intersection between humanities and medicine is a vital aspect of successful medical care. She enjoys varied and interesting research, so as Editor-in-Chief she hopes to bring a diverse collection of articles to Caduceus. In her free time, Avery can be found re-reading Harry Potter and relaxing in the Washington Square dog park with a large iced coffee.
Mira Sharma is a senior at New York University who is double-majoring in Psychology and Biology on the pre-health track. She is an active member of Phi Delta Epsilon Pre-Medical Fraternity as well as Vice President of Events on NYU Shruti South Asian Cultural Club. Mira currently works in two labs that represent an aspect of each of her majors: a social psychology lab headed by Dr. Madeline Heilman as well as a biomedical research lab headed by Dr. Ravi Ramasamy. In her free time, she loves to enjoy the city with her friends by discovering underground restaurants, comedy clubs, and going to museum events and exhibit openings. She is an avid reader who loves a good fiction book; you can usually find Mira at a bookshop perusing through the novels and music.

Kaylee is a junior at NYU Gallatin concentrating in Plagues, Epidemics, and Disease with a minor in Bioethics. She is interested in studying the biological and epidemiological components of disease as well as the implications of social attitudes and fears towards certain diseases through literary, historical, philosophical and scientific perspectives. As a staff writer for Caduceus, Kaylee hopes to channel her interests in health disparities and poverty studies to shed light on prominent injustices in the field of medicine. In her free time, Kaylee enjoys watching psychological thrillers and taking ballet classes.
